A special second edition of the Mercury was rushed out last Friday to report on the Regent Road inferno
The blaze, which began at the Regent Street Superbowl and neighbouring indoor market, was reported at around 3:30am. With the assistance of reporters and photographers from the EDP and Evening News, the editorial team was quickly mobilised to the scene to get the latest stories and images to our readers. This brought a large traffic uplift to the website as regular updates were provided.
It was the first time a special edition of The Mercury had been published, and 3,000 copies were delivered to the news stands in superstores and newsagents throughout Great Yarmouth. The 9-page special, with the striking headline Inferno, showed dramatic images of the scene and provided valuable information to the community.
Editor of The Mercury, Anne Edwards said: “It was the biggest major incident in Great Yarmouth for decades and the Great Yarmouth Mercury special showed what a fine news and pictures team we have here in the town. Our efforts were also appreciated by readers who have snapped up the 3,000 copies published.”
The Great Yarmouth Mercury team continues to follow developments closely. Read the full story here.
