Atomic Regions & Thick l’s

Q: My PDF proof has lines all over it?

A: Atomic regions are “stitch” lines (dotted or solid) where transparency has been flattened.  Viewed at a higher magnification they will either go away completely or remain as hairlines and will not appear in print.
Solution: You can only turn them off in Acrobat Professional (untick Smooth line art).

Screen below shows smooth line art has been disabled in Adobe Acrobat Professional and has stopped the lines appearing on screen.

thickiesQ: PDF showing thick ‘l’ character?

A: This is a PDF reader display issue which only affects the ‘I’ character.  This is caused by the limited resolution of the display monitor and will not reproduce in print.
Solution: View at higher magnification and the “I”s reproduce correctly or if using Adobe Acrobat change the default behavior to enhance the display of thin lines on the display monitor. This behavior can be changed by going to Edit, Preferences, Page Display, then uncheck ‘Enhance Thin Lines’
